He had two brothers named Pbepin (Carloman) and Louisof The. He had ten half-brothers and ten half-sisters, named Drogo, Hugo L Abbe, Charles Emperor, Louis "The Pious", Lothaire Prince Of, Pippin, Pepin Bastard Of, Rothais Rothaide Bastard, Hugo, Holy Roman Emperor, Dietrich, Theodrade Princess Of, Hiltrude Princess Of, Adeltrud, Adelinda, Adelheid, Rotrude, Bertha Princess, Gisele Princess Of, Hildegard Princess Of and Rothaide Abbesse Of. Louis was one of Charlemagne and Hildegard's sons. When his brothersdie
d, he was able to re-unite the entire Empire, in 814 A.D. In order to ensu
re his succession whilehe was still alive, he divided the Empire into thr
ee kingdoms which he gifted, with primacy to the ldest, to his three so
ns (Ordinatio Imperii, 817 A.D.). When Judith, Louis the Pious' second wif
e, had another son, Charles, in 823 A.D, she demanded that he be given t
he same advantages as his brothers. This called into question the divisi
on of territory agreed to in 817 A.D. In the end, Charlemagne's vast empi
re was redivided (Treaty of Verdun, 843 A.D.) between Louis the German, Ch
arles and Lothair.
