His paternal grandparents were John Knyvett and Alice Grey; his maternal grandfather was William Tyrrell and his maternal grandmother is Margaret Darcy. He had six brothers and a sister, named Thomas, Edmund, Anthony, James, William, Edward and Anne. He is the third youngest of the eight children.-
