John was born about 1585 in Nottingham, Nottingham, Eng.  John's father is John Gregory and his mother is Alice Alton.  His maternal grandparents are John D' Aldone and Mrs. John Alton. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Michael, William, Edward, Henry, Elizabeth and Winifred.  He is the third oldest of the seven children. He had a half-brother named Henry.
