Esther was born on March 23rd, 1815 in St. Martins, Haverfordwest, Pembroke, Wales and her baptism took place on March 23rd, 1815 in St Martins, Harverfordwest, Pembroke, Wales.  Esther's father was William GRIFFITHS and her mother was Mary WILLIAMS.  Her paternal grandfather was Richard GRIFFITHS and her paternal grandmother is Martha PROUT; her maternal grandfather was Thomas WILLIAMS and her maternal grandmother is Sarah HOWELL. She had six brothers and seven sisters, named Thomas, William, William, Richard, Isaac, Charles, Sarah, Martha, Ann, Rebecca, Sarah, Eliza and Rebecca.  She is the oldest of the fourteen children.
