Thomas was born in 1637 in Hartford, Suffolk, CT. Thomas' father was Richard Butler and his mother was Elizabeth Bigelow. His paternal grandparents were Stephen Butler and Mrs Steven Butler; his maternal grandparents were Randall Bigelow (Baguley) and Jane Mrs Baguley. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Samuel, Nathaniel, Joseph, Daniel, Mary, Elizabeth and Hannah. He died at the age of 51 on August 29th, 1688 in Hartford, Hartford, Conn..
