He sold all his land in Culpepper County before 1770. In 1782 he appears on George Pooges' list of "Heads of Families of Bath County". James Rucker Sr., James Rucker, Jr. and Wyatt Rucker were living in Green brier River Section. James Rucker, Sr. patented and bought land in Augusta and Bath (later Greenbrier) on the Middle Fork of the Greenbrier River, some of which he deeded to his sons. To the east of the river near the SW corner of Bath County is a pass called "Rucker Pass" through the Alleghany Mountains into Greenbrier County. James Rucker, Sr. deeded land to his sons James Jr. and Berryman.
