Nathaniel was born in 1835 in Lewis Co.,Kentucky. Nathaniel's father was James H. Underwood and his mother is Patsey Wood. His paternal grandparents are Elijah Underwood and Sally Stone. He had two brothers and three sisters, named James W., Jocobus, Mary Jane, Sara A. and Susanah. He had two half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Samuel, Alexander, Rosetta, Lavina, Louisa E. and Rebecca. He died at the age of 27 in 1862.-
