John B. was born on May 30th, 1843 in ,Marengo County,AL. John B.'s father was Thomas Stokes and his mother was Nellie Jane Ramsey. His paternal grandparents were Daniel Stokes and Mary "Polly" Levin. He had three brothers and three sisters, named William P., Thomas Samuel, James D., Elizabeth, Margaret and Nancy Jane. He had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Robert D., George Jesse and Missouri Idella. He died at the age of 76 on January 4th, 1920 in ,Kemper County,MS. He was buried in Pleasant Springs Baptist Church,Kemper County,MS.-
