Bessie Alice was born on December 16th, 1891 in Green Co.,Kentucky. Bessie Alice's father was William Anderson Skaggs and her mother was Martha Francis Nelson. Her paternal grandparents were William L. Skaggs and Mary Johnson; her maternal grandparents are Thomas Jefferson Nelson and Rebecca E. DeSpain. She had five brothers and two sisters, named William Thomas, John Berton, Bennie Dever, Miles Talmadge, Henry Matt, Emma Green and Mary Lela Rebecca. She was the fourth youngest of the eight children. She died at the age of 80 on March 15th, 1972 in Elizabethtown,Hardin Co.,Kentucky.-
