Her maternal grandfather was William Briscoe Warren and her maternal grandmother is Elizabeth Canida. She had four brothers and seven sisters, named William Thomas, James Madison, John Wesley, Alfred Perry, Susan Jane, Elizabeth Adaline, Martha Ann, Mary Francis, Permelia Melissa, Lucy Ellen and Cordelia Annas. She is the fourth youngest of the twelve children.-
