Susannah was born in 1836. Susannah's father was William J. McQueen and her mother is Susannah Graham. Her paternal grandparents are Daniel McQueen and Susannah Garrell; her maternal grandparents were William Graham and Elizabeth Bellamy. She had six brothers and a sister, named Daniel Jenkins, Samuel B., Alexander W., Cornelius, George W. C., James R. and Margaret Ann Johnston.-
