Margaret Eliza was born on September 30th, 1870 in Cumberland Co.,North Carolina. Margaret Eliza's father is John Alexander Gillis and her mother is Catherine Jane Blue. Her paternal grandparents are Roderick D. Gillis and Margaret Mary Graham. She has a brother and three sisters, named Archibald Alexander, Sarah, Mary Alice and Annie Jane. She is the second oldest of the five children.
