James was born in 1744 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He died at the age of 63 in 1807 in Augusta County (now Pendleton County, WV), Virginia. He was buried in Cyer Cemetery #20, Ft. Seybert, Pendleton County, West Virginia.
