John was born in Cobham, Kent, England. John's father was Henry de Cobham and his mother was Maud de Moreville. His paternal grandparents were John de Cobham and Joan FitzBenedict de Septivans. He was an only child.
John and Joan Beauchamp of were married in a religious ceremony in 1314. They had a son and a daughter, named John and Joan.
