John S. was born in June 1843 in Roane County, West Virginia. John S.'s father was David W. Shaver and his mother was UNKNOWN Christina. His paternal grandparents were George Shaver and Marie Elizabeth. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Salathiel S., George W., David W. Jr., Susan and Christina. He was the third oldest of the six children. He died after 1880.-
