Buford Franklin was born on July 5th, 1916 in Hendricks, Lincoln, Minnesota. Buford Franklin's father was Theodore Sigvaard Mondale and his mother is Jessie Alice Larson. His paternal grandparents were Ole Fredrikson Mundal and Tarand Sevatson. He had three brothers named Robert Lester, Clifford and Willard. He was the youngest of the four children.
