His paternal grandfather was UNKNOWN Svein; his maternal grandparents were Bjerte Einbu and UNKNOWN Magnhild. He had five brothers and a sister, named Knut Knutson, Borge Knutson, Jon Knutson, Mattis Knutson, Jakob Knutson and Anne Knutsdatter.
