John was born on February 15th, 1818 in Northend, Burton Dasset, Warwickshire, England.  John's father was John Hirons and his mother was Sarah Freeman. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Richard, Jesse, Mary Ann, Sarah A. and Sarah.  He is the second youngest of the six children.
