Johan Justus was born in Daudenzell, Mosbach, Baden, Germany.  Johan Justus' father was Anthony Jacob Henckel and his mother was Maria Elizabetha Dentzer.  His paternal grandparents were George Henckel and Anna Eulalia Dentzer.  He was an only child.  He died in August 1778 in Germany Valley, Augusta or Pendleton County, Virginia.  He was buried in Hinkle's Fort, North Fork of the South Branch,Potomac River, Rockingham (now Pendleton) County, Virginia/WVA.

‌Johan Justus and Maria Magdalena were married in a religious ceremony about 1730 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia or Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.  They had four sons and eight daughters, named Isaac, Jost, Jacob, Abraham, Anna Maria Elizabeth, Rebecca, Maria Anna Margaret, Elizabeth, Susannah, Hannah, Mary Magdalena and Catherine.
