Peter was born about 1749 in Berks County, Pennsylvania. Peter's father was Matthias Johann Heimbach and his mother was Susanna Weske. His paternal grandparents were Johannes Heimbach and Anna Maria Angelica; his maternal grandfather is Jean Phillip Vesquea. He had two brothers and a sister, named Heinrich, David and Maria Elizabeth. He had five half-brothers and a half-sister, named Jacob, Johan Nicholas, Johannes, Johann Christian, Johann Philip and Maria.
