Cornelius was born in Dutch Reformed, New Amsterdam (now New York City), New York. Cornelius' father was Gerrit Hendricks De Wees and his mother was Sijtie Lievens. His paternal grandfather is Gerret Hendricks De Wees. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Lewis, William, Wilhelmina and Sarah. He died after 1735 in Germantown, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.-
