Alias:<ALIA> Johan Eilofsen /Broste\Oien/
According to Arnfinn Kjellan (Arnfinn.Kjelland@@hivolda.no), Norwegian
genealogist and the author of Bygdebok for Lesja) in an email dated
Monday, July 01,2002: "Hello, Linda, I guess you have the information
given in "Nelson County History" Vol 1 (ca 1983) page 742 (Bergen
township) and Vol 2 page 791 (Pekin) about Sever and Karen? I am the
author of Bygdebok for Lesja
(http://www.hibolda.no/ahf/historie/lesja/bygdebok.htm) and you'll find
Bjorlie in Vol. 1. Sever (Syver in Norway) came from a farm (holding)
named Bjorlivollen (page 85). He emigrated in 1875. The bygdebok
contains all relevant genealogical information about Syver. Karen I
don't have more info about, but I guess it is not too difficult to find
out. A quick search in the Norw. 1865 census for Grytten parish gives
one obvious candidate:

because of the combination of fathers name Johan/John and place of
birth/linig, Brudeli-oien, which normally is abbreviated Oien or Oyen in
Norw. This is a place at Verma, Romsdalen, about 20 km northwest of
Bjorli. I see you use the family/farm name Broste to Karen. That is
unknown to me, but the two Broste (Broste) farms is also situated in the
Verma area of Romsdalen, between Brudeli and Bjorli. What connection do
you have between Karen and Broste?" Yours, Arnfinn Kjelland Volda

And in follow-up email dated Tuesday, July 02, 2002 from Arnfinn: "This
is definitely the same family as the one I found in the 1865 census at
the farm/holding Brudelioien. Why Johan and Gullaug (parents of Karn)
changed family name to Broste I cannot say, but probably Johan was born
at one of the Broste farms..."
