According to ABRIDGED COMPENDIUM OF AMERICAN GENEALOGY FIRST FAMILIES OF
AMERICA< The Abridged Compendium of American Genealogy, The Standard

Frederick A. Virkus Volume 1, 1925, F.A.Virkus & Company, Genealogical
Publishers, 440-442 S. Dearborn Street, Chicago, Illinois, page 3459:
"BRINTON< William (1630-1700), from Eng. to Delaware Co., PA., 1684; mem.
and founder of Concord Meeting, Delaware Co., Pa.; m. Ann Bagley
(1635-99)."
According to SONS & DAUGHTERS OF THE PILGRIMS application by ..."Saville
Clay Bainbridge, resident of Beesley Point, N.J., born March 22, 1876;
married April 7,1902; hereby apply for membership in The Society of the
Sons and Daughters of the Pilgrims by right of descent from William
Brinton of Staffordshire, England; purchased land of William Penn, 1684;
born 1630; died at Birmingham, PA., 1700. Service: Founded family in
America."
William Brinton was President of the Colony 1660-1 and Governor 1666-1669
of Rhode Island and Connecticut under charter by King Charles II
according to MEMOIRS OF THE WILKINSON FAMILY, Author Israel Wilinson of
Rhode Island.  Bilbiographic Information: Wilkinson, ISrael. Memoirs of
the Wilkinson Family. Davis & Penniman. Jacksonville, Ill. 1869.
According to Act of Congress, in the year 1869, bu Israel Wilkinson, in
the Clerk's Office of the United States for the Southern District of
Illinois:
" Roger Williams arrived home with this Charter in September, 1644, but
it was not adopted by the Court of Commissioners until 1647, and the
following are the Presidents and their terms of service under this
Charter:
1647 John Coggeshall, 1648 Jeremiah Clark, 1649 John Smith, 1650-1
Nicholas Easton, 1632-4 None, 1655-6 Roger Williams, 1657-9 Benedict
Arnold, 1660-1 William Brinton, 1662-3 Benedict Arnold. Coddington of
Newport did not like the Charter, and went to England and procured its
annulment, and in 1651 returned with a commission, erecting the Island of
Rhode Island and Canonicut into a separate government.  In Nov., 1651,
Roger Williams and John Clark went to England, and succeeded in getting
Coddington's commission vacated and the old charter re-established, and
returning, arrived at Providence early in the summer of 1654.  At the
first general election he was chosen President of the Colony...On the 8th
of July, 1663, King Charles II. signed the last Charter, and the
following are the Governors under that Charter down to the Constitution:
1663 Benedict Arnold 3 years. 1666 William Brinton 3 years. 1669 Benedict
Arnold 3 years. 1672 Nicholas Easton 2 years..."
According to BRINTON FAMILY, Chester Co.PA Biographies Forum posting by
Mary Harris (mhharris@@sprynet.com) on Saturday 19 Dec 1998: "William
Brinton the Elder, the emigrant ancestor of this family in America, came
from the village of Nether Bournall in the parish of Sedgeley,
Staffordshire, England.  Leaving his three daughters behind, he and his
wife Ann and their son William embarked in the spring of 1684 for
Pennsylvania.  William trekked long miles through the unbroken wilderness
until he reached a desirable location in what would become Birmingham
township.  Here would his family settle and prosper.  Their first winter
was spent in the temporary shelter afforded by a cave and, with no
provisions to speak of, the little family would have starved had it not
been for the kindness of the local Lenape Indians who brought food to
them.  The following year, William cleared land and built a cabin,
planting a pear tree outside his door to mark the site."
