Walter was born about 1150 in Ewaislacy, England. Walter's father was Hugh De Lacy and his mother was Rohesia De Clare. His maternal grandparents were Gilbert Fitzrichard De Clare and Adeliza de Clermont. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Gilbert, Hugh, Robert, Alice, Elaine and Miss. He was the youngest of the seven children.-
