Howard was born in 1905. Howard's father was John J. Anders and his mother was Mazie. His paternal grandfather was James Jasper Anders and his paternal grandmother is Sarah Sally Evans. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Jasper, Epperson, Bell and Ettie. He is the youngest of the five children.-
