Catherine was born about 1785 in Lynchburg, Virginia.1 Catherine's father was Jacob Straley and her mother was Martha M. French. Her maternal grandparents were MATTHEW H. French and SARAH Payne. She had nine brothers and two sisters, named Charles M, David, Joseph, Leland, Daniel, French, Jacob Lynch, James, John, Nancy and Sallie.
