James was born about 1220 in Heleigh Castle, Audley, Staffordshire, England.  James' father was Henry De Audley and his mother was Bertrade De Mainwaring.  His paternal grandparents were Adam De Audley and Emma Fitzorm; his maternal grandparents were Rafe Ralph De Mainwaring and Amicia De Meschines. He had a brother and two sisters, named Henry, Emma and Alice.  He was the second oldest of the four children.  He died on June 11th, 1276 in Broke His Neck In Ireland.  He was buried in Lord Marcher, Justiciar Of Ireland.


James' family with Ela Longespee

‌James and Ela were married in a religious ceremony in 1244 in Salisbury, Wiltshire, England.  They had two sons named Hugh and Nicholas.
