Bertha De was born in 1151 in Bramber, Sussex, England. Bertha De's father was William II De Braose and her mother is Bertha De Pitres. Her paternal grandparents were Philip Baron De Braose and Aenor De Toteneis; her maternal grandparents were Miles De Pitres and Sybil De Neufmarche. She had a brother and three sisters, named William III Th Baron De, Avelina Agnes De, Sybil De and Susan Maud De. She was the third oldest of the five children.
