Solomon was born on January 26th, 1800 in Randolph County, (West) Virginia.1   Solomon's father was John Wood and his mother was Ann Elizabeth Harper.  His paternal grandparents were Isaac Wood and Rachel Ramey; his maternal grandparents were Johan Jacob Harper and Margaret Simmons. He had ten brothers and a sister, named Absolom, Henry, Enoch, John, Zebulon, Jacob, Caleb, Joshua, Noah, David and Phebe.  He was the fourth oldest of the twelve children. He had three half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Daniel, Ambrose, Joel, Martha, Mary and Elizabeth.  He died after 1843 in Steeleville, Crawford County, Missouri.2
