His paternal grandfather was William Le SCROPE and his paternal grandmother is Constance De NEWSOM; his maternal grandfather was William De ROS and his maternal grandmother is Eustace FITZHUGH. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Henry Le, Geofrey, Stephen, William Le, John, Beatrice Or Beatrix, Constance and Ivetta. He was the fourth oldest of the nine children.
