Robert was born about 1664 in , , Donegal, Ireland. Robert's father was Robert Bruce POLK (POLLOCK) and his mother was Magdalen (Porter) TASKER. His paternal grandfather was Robert Bruce POLLOCK and his paternal grandmother is Annabel STEWART; his maternal grandfather was Thomas TASKER. He had seven brothers and two sisters, named John, William B., David, Ephriam, James, Robert, Joseph, Anne and Martha. He was the third oldest of the ten children.
