Thomas was born about 1626 in Of Olney, Buckingham, England and his baptism took place in May 1628 in Rollesby County, Norfolk, England. Thomas' father was Franics MAPES and his mother was Anna LOVEDAY. His paternal grandparents were Leonard MAPES and Katherine SOUTHWELL; his maternal grandparents are Richard LOVEDAY and Susan UNKNOWN. He had three brothers and four sisters, named John(Thomas), Richard, Joseph, Katherine, Elizabeth, Rebecca and Ann. He was the youngest of the eight children.
