Nephew of Dr. William Robertson, the historian, and a cousin of Laor Brougham

BIOGRAPHY: The date in not given, but in the year 1732 or 1733 John Henry was married to Mrs. Syme, nee Sarah Winston, the widow of Capt. John Syme. Her brother, William Winston, was said to be "the greatest orator ever heard, Patrick Henry excepted."
This was spoken with reference to Patrick Henry, Jr.

BIOGRAPHY: Was a Colonel and a loyalist. His brother was an Anglican priest in Virginia. The Church of England was the established church in Virginia.

BIOGRAPHY: son of Alex Henry and Jean Robertson. Surveyor. Resided in Aberdeen. Settled Richmond, Hanover County, VA before 1730. 1733 Bought 1221 acres on Fork Creek. m. 1734 Sarah Winston, widow Symes. Died 1773. Had first cousin David Henry who was a
journalist in London. Brother to Rev. Patrick of Hanover Co. VA.

BIOGRAPHY: Some time, but not very long prior to 1730, John Henry came directly from Scotland to Virginia. In April, 1733, his brother, Reverend Patrick Henry, an Episcopalian minister, also came over.

BIOGRAPHY: The two brothers were very much attached to each other and ever afterwards lived not far apart. They were cousins of David Henry, who went from Scotland to London at the age of fourteen, and became a journeyman printer in the same office with
Benjamin Franklin. He married a sister of Edward Cave, the founder of the "Gentleman's Magazine," in London.

BIOGRAPHY: David was for more than fifty years associate editor of the Magazine, and in that publication describes his Henry kin as "more respected for their good sense and superior education than for their riches, as at every neighborhood meeting they
were among the foremost."

note: There were also considerable migration within and between the USA and Canada by the Ulster Scots, as well as failures of enterprises such as their small farms in inhospitable places - that's why the land was free or at a nominal price. Many emigrants came from farming backgrounds and would have followed that tradition but Scots were involved in the tobacco, rum and sugar trades and could well have followed this with migration to Virginia, Georgia, and the Southern states.
