Martha Ann was born on September 18th, 1847 in Scott County, Virginia. Martha Ann's father was Jesse Franklin Gray and her mother was Mary Ann Epperson. Her maternal grandparents were Hopson Epperson and Annie Agee. She had six brothers named William Hopson, Harrison Thompson, Walter, James Franklin, Francis M. and Robert W..
