Joseph was born on March 10th, 1722 in South River Par, Anne Arundel, Maryland. Joseph's father was Benjamine GAITHER and his mother was Sarah Maria BURGESS. His paternal grandparents were John GAITHER and Ruth BEARD. He had six brothers and six sisters, named Benjamine, John, Edward, Samuel, Henry, William, Elizabeth, Ruth, Sarah, Ann, Mary and Cassandra.
