Gamel was born about 1165 in Little Singleton, Kirkham, Lancashire, England.  Gamel's father was Uctred Or Ughtred Huctred DE SINGLETON and his mother was Mrs-Uctred DE SINGLETON.  His paternal grandfather was Huck or Hucca DE SINGLETON and his paternal grandmother is Mrs. Huck DE SINGLETON. He had eight brothers and a sister, named Richard, Robert, Huctred, Ketel, Roger, Ralph Or Rauffe, John, Adam and Matilda Or Maud de.  He is the fourth youngest of the ten children.
