Edward was born about 1451 in Of, Boconnock, Cornwall, England. Edward's father was Hugh COURTENAY and his mother is Margaret CARMINOW. His paternal grandparents were Hugh COURTENAY and Maud BEAUMONT; his maternal grandfather was Thomas CARMINOW and his maternal grandmother is Jane HILL. He had two brothers and four sisters, named John, Walter, Isabell, Matilda (Maud), Florence and Elizabeth. He was the third youngest of the seven children. He died on May 28th, 1509.
