Her paternal grandparents were Wilhelmus Hendrickse BEEKMAN and Cateyntie DE BOOG; her maternal grandparents were Christopher Janse Stoffel ABEEL and Neeltje Janse CROON. She had seven brothers and two sisters, named William, Gerardus Christopher, Adrian, William, James, Gerardus, Henry, Catherine and Cornelia. She was the youngest of the ten children.
