His paternal grandfather was Robert ASTON and his paternal grandmother is Isabel Johanna BRERETON; his maternal grandfather is John DELVES. He had three brothers and nine sisters, named Richard, Thomas, Robert, Elizabeth, Isabel, Catherine, Margaret, Miss, Miss, Miss, Alice and Rose. He was the second oldest of the thirteen children.
