William Tatem was Sheriff of Gloucester County, New Jersey
From The Tatum Narratives: This notice at the time of his death was published in the Pa. Gazette:
"Yesterday in the afternoon died here, after eight days' illness Wm. Tateham, Esq. late high Sheriff of this County, a person well beloved in private life and who behavior and conduct in public station whilst he nejoyed it, was such as gained him universal esteem from the people. His removal from it greatly regretted by them and his loss by the stroke of Death that has soon followed much lamented not only by his friends and more immediate acquaintance in particular, but the County in general." (Pa Gazette No. 549, from June 14 to June 21, 1739 at Phila. Lib.)
