walking
Nearly 70 when he walked one night during the Civil War, through
drenching rain, to a point within 8 miles of Bloody Run to give
Gen. Milroy word of the nearby enemy, and returned before 10 the
next day. This was 60 miles on foot in little more than 12
hours.
in 1845 he settled on Little Cove farm near McConnelsburg and
devoted time to farming and stockraising.
