At one time owned and probably built the house on Scrub Ridge known as the
Shaffer property, by the running pump, and kept a tavern. After some years her
husband ran away and left her. Later she went to live with one of her children-
Sarah-who married John Smith and moved to Jefferson, Iowa. She was a woman whom the whole community loved and respected."
