Mathilda was born about 0974 in Normandy, France.¹ Mathilda's father was Richard Moriton and her mother was Gunnora De Crêpon. Her paternal grandparents were William UNKNOWN and Espriota (Sprote) De Senlis; her maternal grandparents were Herbastus Haraldblaatand De Crepon and Cynthia De Crepon. She had eight brothers and six sisters, named Richard, Godfrey, Robert, William, Herbert I, Mauger Mortain, Richard, William, Elfgiva, Hedwig, Beatrice, Hawise, Emma and Fressenda.
