Simon was born in 1180 in Joinville, France.1 Simon's father was Geoffrey De Joinville and his mother was Helvide De Dampierre. His paternal grandparents were Geoffrey UNKNOWN and Felicite De Brienne; his maternal grandparents were Gui I Seigneur Of Dampierre and Helvide De Baudemont. He had four brothers named William, Andre, Geoffroy and Robert Sailly. He had a half-sister named Mary. He died at the age of 53 in April 1233.1 General Notes
