Alan was born in 1155 in Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England.1 Alan's father was Thomas Basset and his mother was Alice Adeliza De Dunstanville. His paternal grandparents were Gilbert Basset and Edith D'oilly; his maternal grandfather was Alan De Dunstanville. He had two brothers and a sister, named Thomas, Gilbert and Isabel.
