Joan PLANTAGENET OF ACRE 
Joan was born in 1272 in Acre, Palestine. Joan's father was UNKNOWN EDWARD and her mother was Lenor, Leanor UNKNOWN. She had four brothers and nine sisters, and also two siblings of unknown gender, named John, Alfonso, Edward Of Carnarvon, For His Birthplace In Wales, Henry, Eleanor, Margaret, Elizabeth, Isabel, Beatrice, Berengaria, Blanche, Mary, Katherine, Alice, Unnamed and Unnamed. She had two half-brothers and two half-sisters, named De Brotherton, Edmund, Eleanor and Unknown. She died at the age of 35 on April 23rd, 1307 in Clare In Suffolk, England. c)1996 Cassell Joan of Acre was the 8th child of Edward I a
nd his first wife Eleanor of Castile, and was born at Acr
e in Palestine in the spring of 1272 when her parents wer
e taking part in the Crusades. She was married at Westminst
er Abbey on 30 April 1290 to Gilbert de Clare, 3rd Earl o
f Gloucester and 7th Earl of Hereford, the divorced husban
d of Alice de Lusignan, a half-sister of Henry III. Joan ga
ve birth to a son and three daughters in quick succession b
efore her husband died at Monmouth Castle on 7 December 129
5 and was buried in Tewkesbury Abbey. A little over a yea
r later, in January 1297, Joan contracted a second marriag
e in secret to Ralph de Monthermer, who had been her firs
t husband's esquire. When news of this marriage was made kn
own to her father, he was so infuriated that he threw the c
rown or coronet he was wearing on the fire and ordered Ralp
h to be imprisioned at Bristol, at the same time confiscati
ng all the lands and castles that Joan had inherited from h
er first husband. However, the Bishop of Durham acted a
s a mediator and the king accepted his new son-in-law by Au
gust 1297 when he was summoned to Parliament as Earl of Glo
ucester and Hereford in right of his wife. Joan had two son
s and two daughters by her second marriage and died at Clar
e in Suffolk on 23 April 1307, being buried in the Augustin
ian priory there. The earldoms of Gloucester and Hereford p
assed to her son by her first husband, and Ralph de Monther
mer was summond to Parliament as Lord Monthermer. He marrie
d again and died on 5 April 1325, having had no issue by hi
