John was born about 1245 in Trenowyth, Cornwall.1 John's father was Roger CARMYNOW and his mother was Sarah HORNACOTE. His paternal grandfather was Robert CARMYNOWE; his maternal grandfather was Gervais HORNACOTE. He had a brother and two sisters, named Roger, Maud and Gervais.
