Joan was born about 1170 in Dudley, Worcester, England. Joan's father was Ralph de Somery and her mother was Margaret Mareschal. Her paternal grandparents were John de Somery and Hawise de Paynell; her maternal grandparents were John "le Mareschal" fitz Gilbert and Sybil d'Evereaux. She had three brothers named Ralph II, Roger and William Perceval. She was the oldest of the four children. She died on May 22nd, 1276.-
