Herphast was born about 0926 in Crêpon, Normandy, France. Herphast's father was Herbastus de Crépon and his mother was Gunhilde Olafsdatter. His paternal grandfather was Herfast Gormsson; his maternal grandparents were Olaf "Mitkg" Bjornsson and Ingeberg Thrandsdatter.
