Engelbert I was born about 1040 in Karnten, Austria. Engelbert I's father was Count of Levanthal Siegfried and his mother was Richardis la Vente of Pusterthal. His paternal grandparents were Count of Spondheim Eberhard and Hedwig of Nellenburg. He was an only child. He died on April 1st, 1096.-
